Cleaning Materials For Your Oil Abstract Canvas
Cleaning canvas wall art painted in oil paint is a delicate procedure. You will need some cleaning materials such as rubber gloves, cotton swabs, Q tips, neutralizer, varnish remover, emulsion cleaner, and paint varnish.
The neutralizer should be within reach as you clean your oil painting, it will stop another chemical’s action in case you make a mistake or notice a negative reaction of the painting to the chemical. The emulsion cleaner gets rid of dirt, tobacco smoke stains, and dust on the surface. The varnish remover will get rid of old varnish that has turned yellow.
Cleaning Tips For Abstract Canvas In Oil
Start with a small area in one of the corners to test the effect of you cleaning solution. Have your neutralizer ready, just in case you need to stop the effects of the varnish remover or emulsion solution. Choose a well-ventilated room in your home to clean your abstract canvas. Wear your gloves to protect your hands from the chemicals.
Place your canvas wall art on a clean sheet of paper on a flat surface. Avoid pressing down to hard with your cotton swabs or Q-tips to avoid damaging the canvas’ surface or causing dents. Place some varnish remover on cotton swabs and gently remove the top layer of dirt, dust and old varnish.
Use your Q-tips soaked in some emulsion to clean-off dirt. Roll the Q-tips along the surface and don’t scrub the surface roughly. The dirt will stick to the cotton even if you don’t rub the surface. Check the cotton occasionally to see if it needs to be replaced with a clean fresh one. You should also check the cotton tips for paint. Stop if you see paint being transferred to the Q-tips.
Clean about 2 square inches of your abstract canvas at a time so you can monitor the effect of the cleaning solution. As one area comes clean, apply some neutralizer to stop the effects of the cleaning agent. After you get the whole canvas wall art cleaned, apply the varnish to your abstract canvas to seal and protect the artwork.
